Plants that take over the world - Bougainvillea

Bougainvillea is beautiful but quite thorny. I've lost many a battle with this sticker bush. Now I go into battle with long sleeves, long pants and long gloves. Several times a year it grows up into the eaves so I have to cut it back.

A long time ago, a friend told me that bougainvillea thrives when it is root-bound, thirsty and non-fertilized. The perfect plant for me!
